Job Purpose:
You will manage and direct resources for specialist operation, maintenance, configuration control and project activity on the units essential and non-essential mechanical systems to ensure ongoing continuity of mechanical services and to protect the integrity of the 24 hour operational air traffic service
Act with delegated responsibility as service delivery manager for facilities service group mechanical assets and as unit mechanical representative in support of projects
Support the interoperability objectives as the competent expert in mechanical engineering for the designated region. The designated region being Prestwick
Other duties include:
- Leading, directing and controlling, external stakeholders / suppliers for maintenance and project work on the unit mechanical systems, to ensure operational safety is not compromised and that the overall risk is adequately managed
- Liaise and co-operate closely with the technical services manager when responding to plant or equipment failures, so that an orderly recovery is achieved with minimal disruption to the operational service
- Co-ordinate with staff to ensure that during periods of absence the tactical support of mechanical services at the site is continuously maintained
- Identifying and recommending training requirements to ensure the availability of trained, competent people to maintain the mechanical services. This includes providing NATS specialist training to develop the skill required for technician engineers, including contractors, to carry out their duties effectively
Essential skills and experience:
- The applicant is expected to hold as a minimum a HND/HNC (NVQ Level 4) qualification in mechanical/building services engineering (or an equivalent qualification) in an engineering related discipline and have relevant engineering experience in mechanical/building services engineering
- Demonstrable knowledge of the health and safety at work etc act and associated statutory regulations, standards and codes of practice to be appointed as responsible person for; legionella, fire, asbestos, LOLER and PUWER
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to control, organise and direct the work of others, including M&E specialist contractors, as part of a team
- Must be accessible, adaptable, flexible an active listener and able to respond to people, helping support them to achieve their plans, objectives and targets
Additional vacancy information:
You will be on-call as part of the 24 hour support to the operation. There may be the need to provide telephone support or attend out of hours for service restoration, or to deploy service changes and you must be able to attend Prestwick within 1 hour of the call
