The role
We have an exciting opportunity for proficient SQL coder to join our data team as a
SQL Engineer (Data Governance) on a 12 month FTC basis, working also on a
flexible remote-hybrid basis between your home and our London office.
The SQL Engineer (Data Governance) role provides a vital role in ensuring that
the organisation maintains control over data processing and storage.
Working within the Chief Data Officer’s data team the SQL Engineer role will work
with a range of stakeholders across the business, to ensure robust data governance
practices are maintained.
In this data driven and heavily regulated organisation, this SQL Engineer job ensures that
the organisation can maintain compliance with regulatory requirements relating to data,
reduces data risks, and drives value through raising quality of data assets.
Team Hybrid Working Style
We are very proud to offer one of the most flexible hybrid working arrangements in the
industry! The expectation for this role, will involve a minimum of one day each
month – working out of our London Bridge office.
Key Accountabilities Include
– Performing data governance audits, to identify and assess gaps to existing
policies and standards.
– Tracking data governance issues, resolutions, and consistently publish
their status to stakeholders.
– Understanding data lineage and work with Data Owners to document metadata,
controls, and business definitions.
– Automate processes to extract/load metadata to reporting platforms.
– Supporting the Information Security team to develop systems which report access
to databases/other data access.
– Ensuring and developing monitoring systems to ensure audit trail and alerting for
breaches of policy within access and manipulation of data.
– Identifying and resolve any gaps in implementation of data retention policies.
– Support and provide analysis of regular role review processes to ensure access to
data is appropriate.
– Work with stakeholder to use tooling to restrict access to data to least privilege
requirements.
– Support maintenance and audit activity relating to regulatory requirements for data
management.
– Developing excellent working relationships across Decision Science, Information Security,
DPO, DBA, and other business stakeholders to build data governance and resolve data
questions/ issues.
You’ll Need to Have
Essential:
– Experience of developing SQL code.
– Strong understanding of relational database systems.
– Ability to analyse systems and code, to understand data lineage through systems.
– Understanding of systems to control access to systems (e.g., active directory, SQL
permissions/roles).
– Some experience of data analysis and data mapping.
– Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
– Ability to deliver in a fast-moving environment with changing priorities.
– Effective team working.
Desirable:
– Financial Services experience
– Consumer and commercial banking background
– Payment schemes and processing.
– Microsoft SQL Server and analytical stack.
