We are looking for an experienced leader to oversee the strategic development, implementation, and delivery of Physical Security across the DVLA estates in Morriston, Ty-Felin and Swansea Vale.

This will include providing a professional advisory service to the Agency for Physical Security and liaising with cross government professionals and the Government Security Group to ensure that the Agency is aligning to the requirements of the Government Security Function Strategy and the Government Functional standard 007.

You will manage a large team, lead assurance programmes, ensure policies and procedures are up to date and work on exciting projects impacting Physical Security.

You will need to perform effectively to deadlines, maintaining focus in challenging situations and adapting to find innovative solutions that meet the needs of stakeholders.

This is a varied role where you will work with a vast range of stakeholders across the Agency and wider government, providing the opportunity to build positive working relationships. You will be at the centre of decision making and setting the future strategy of Physical Security.

Responsibilities

Key accountabilities of the role include:

  • Leading and managing the Strategy of the Physical Security Team and continue to assure that robust security remains in place across the agency by ensuring Physical Security aligns with Government Standards and compliance with the National Security Bill.
  • Identifying, assessing, and analysing security threats liaising with specialist external stakeholders where necessary to develop appropriate risk mitigation across the DVLA estate. Enabling the adoption and implementation of effective Security Risk Management and ensuring appropriate risk mitigation is in place by working with the internal projects team and specialist external advisors.
  • Liaising with the Centre for Protection of National Infrastructure, Government Security Centre People and Physical and other Government Departments to develop awareness within DVLA of threats, controls, and the exploitation of vulnerabilities.
  • Attending incidents as required, supporting the Executive Team to manage live incidents from a security perspective.
  • Ensuring that a security culture is further developed that supports a holistic approach to security in line with Government Security Standards. This will be achieved by delivering on a security awareness training programme in conjunction with the Senior Security Advisor for the DVLA.

This role is full-time onsite, and you will be required to travel to other DVLA sites in Swansea.

Person specification

The successful candidate must have a robust knowledge and experience of physical security, as well as experience leading a team, effectively managing team dynamics to drive forward a shared goal.

You will have experience of providing guidance and robust recommendations to stakeholders, where your exceptional stakeholder engagement and relationship building skills will enable you to influence and challenge at all levels.

You will thrive in a varied and challenging role and can organise and prioritise workloads to maximise productivity, despite conflicting demands.

If you do not already hold the qualifications listed on the role profile, then you must be willing to work towards these once in post.

Additional key skills:

  • You will be highly motivated, dynamic, and proactive; able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience of responding to and/or managing response to security and health and safety incidents and working in a high risk / critical facility.
  • Managing a wide range of issues with diplomacy and discretion.
