Features Editor – Daily Star 17 views

We are looking for an experienced Features Editor to join the Daily Star team. You will oversee content within the Features department, working with a team of writers and curating content that resonates with our audience.

This is an exciting opportunity to generate, plan and desk edit entertaining features on a daily basis ensuring we have high-quality content that targets our main digital traffic sources including Direct, Social, SEO and referrers. You will oversee content including but not limited to viral trends, tips and hacks, first-person pieces, health explainers and evergreen royal stories.

We’re looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds, and we want you to tell us the stories you believe are important from our many communities so we can continue to diversify our content.

This role is home and hub based linked to our London Hub. We are therefore open to candidates based in and around London.

Job Description

What will the role involve?

You will generate, create and desk-edit strong content that targets our  audience, liaising with PRs to source exclusive opportunities. You will curate high-traffic driving ideas to pitch to the Head of Features every day. You will source content on current Social Media platforms and to keep up to date with any new platforms and trends. You will forward plan for events and holidays that will appeal to our digital readers. You will manage the Features Audience budgets and workflow, coming up with ways to make traditionally Digital-led Lifestyle content work in Print.

You will work within a team, cultivating a culture and mindset change across the Daily Star, ensuring you and all writers believe in the transformation of this hub. You will support your writers as they learn skills to work across both Print and Digital with ease, ensuring all digital content is in line with SEO and best practices.

Qualifications

Who are we looking for?

You are an exceptional qualified journalist with their NCTJ and editor with a proven track record of writing and editing Social and Viral content in a fast paced national news room environment. You have superb planning and organisation skills, with the ability to manage a busy team and ensure work is fairly distributed whilst meeting deadlines with ease.

Essential skills:

  • Significant experience at a senior level on a Features or Lifestyle desk in a fast-paced national newsroom or magazine environment
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of Social Media and a regular user of mainstream platforms including but not limited to TikTok, Instagram and Facebook
  • Demonstrable experience of creating and editing audience driven content and analysing trends
  • Experience managing people and fostering a supportive and trusting environment that encourages employees to reach their full potential
  • Passion for Lifestyle and viral content
