Overview 

West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) is the second largest fire and rescue service in England, serving an area of 902km square and a population of more than 2.9 million people.

An excellent opportunity to join a well-established training team within the protection department. WMFS Training provides fire marshal, fire extinguisher, EVAC chair and general fire safety training to large organisations across the West Midlands and beyond. 

As well as delivering sessions at our training centre in the West Midlands, the successful candidate would also travel around the UK delivering training on site. These external sessions involve being away, on average, two nights away per month. 

WMFS Training are well-known for their exceptional delivery of fire safety and bespoke training.  

Responsibilities 

  • test and maintain equipment 
  • deliver presentations both theory and practical including:- 
  • Fire Extinguisher, Fire Marshal, EVAC Chair, Qualsafe Emergency Fire Aid at Work, Fire Safety Courses, Industrial Firefighting Course at European Metal Recycling (EMR) across the country (one night away) Historic England Disaster & Salvage Course (delivered over three days, two nights away at Fort Cumberland in Portsmouth) 
  • complete necessary qualifications relevant to the role. 

 

Experience and skills 

Essential skills or experience 

  • be able to deliver presentations to a wide variety of delegates 
  • able to work independently on their own as well as in a team 
  • be prepared to work out of hours and up to 2 nights away from home per month 
  • hold a light vehicle drivers’ licence 
  • have a reasonable level of fitness in order to carry out fire demonstrations, assemble kit and handle fire extinguishers and fire service delivery hose 
  • have a basic understanding of health & safety and risk assessments 
  • be smart in appearance and professional at all times 
  • have excellent communication skills. 

Desirable skills or experience 

  • hold or be willing to work towards a teaching qualification 
  • have experience of lecturing, teaching or giving presentations
