You will act as the Lead Engineer for the Operational Tooling function. This small team administers the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency’s (DVLAs) BMCs deployment of TSOM, TSCO, Discovery and TSSA. As well as this, the team are leading the configuration of SharePoint and the IT management of its content.

This role will offer technical direction and input into architectural processes to ensure fit-for-purpose designs. There will be line management of the engineering capability, as well as contract management involvement where necessary.

The role reports to the Head of Enterprise Tooling and Software and represents the infrastructure arm of the function.

Responsibilities  

Your responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:

  • Overseeing the technical implementation of the product roadmaps.
  • Working with technical architects to translate the architectural designs into operations and support technical architects in operationalising the designs.
  • Leading and directing infrastructure specialist teams in building, managing, supporting and maintaining solutions according to departmental policy.

Person specification

You will be an experienced infrastructure engineer familiar with a wide range of technology knowledge. The role involves maintaining tooling that interacts with databases, applications, virtualisation, clustering, cloud and network technologies. You will have experience in BMC tooling, such as in TSOM, TSCO, TSSA and Discovery, including their Helix SaaS replacements.

You will have strong leadership skills in leading technical implementations. You are able to converse with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior managers. Commercially aware, you will be comfortable with contract ownership and have the ability to gather requirements from a diverse set of users delivering them securely and providing value for money.
