The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has an exciting opportunity within Information Assurance & Governance (IAG) for an Information Assurance Manager on the Data Protection Compliance team. You will work closely within a small, dynamic team to deliver outcomes and provide support to the Senior Executive Officer leading the workstream and wider Senior Management Team.

You will be highly consultative with the ability to provide your stakeholders with advice and guidance on Information Assurance, Privacy by Design and Data Security, ensuring the processes we use to secure our data meet regulatory and legislative requirements.

You will be required to maintain and document data processing activities, assure current data processing activities against an agreed standard and framework, and ensure related policies and guidance are fit for purpose.

You will assure business processes, technical systems processing data and conduct risk assessments to ensure appropriate data protection controls are in place, ensuring information risks have been identified and logged.

You will review and assure new and existing data processing activities providing the Programme Manager, DVLA Chief Data Officer, SIRO and DVLA Data Protection Manager (DPM) with the assurances and risk profile to inform any decision making.

Responsibilities 

Your responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:

  • Supporting the assessment of organisational security measures in place to protect DVLA data are appropriate to the risk, and compliant with government policy and the relevant data protection legislation.
  • Ensuring that appropriate governance is in place in the Agency to protect data assets by providing information assurance advice and guidance to customers and stakeholders to ensure compliance with GDPR.
  • Supporting the assurance of organisational security measures in place, to protect DVLA data are appropriate to the risk, and compliant with government policy and the relevant data protection legislation.
  • Assisting the IAG Records of Processing Manager through the creation and maintenance of the Agency records of processing activities to comply with the requirements of the GDPR.

Person specification

For this role, you will need to be a highly proactive individual who can evidence strong stakeholder management skills. You will have an ability to analyse and understand complex information and relay it effectively to all stakeholders, whether that be in written or verbal format.

With your excellent communications skills, you will have the confidence to challenge and influence your stakeholders. You will be a strong advocate of change and continuous improvement, contributing to the development and continual improvement of the service you and the wider team provide, driving close collaboration between all.

Excellent organisational skills are required, and you will be able to organise and prioritise your work to maximise productivity and achieve all deadlines.

You will have a working knowledge of data protection legislation, and the application of appropriate technical and/or organisational controls used to mitigate information security risks.

If you have not already achieved the qualifications listed on the role profile, you will be required to work towards obtaining these whilst in post.

  • Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection/UK-GDPR
  • Certificate in Information Security Management Principles (CISMP)
