Overview

West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) is the second largest fire and rescue service in England, serving an area of 902km square and a population of over 2.9 million people.

Our vision is ‘Making the West Midlands safer, stronger and healthier’.

This vision and the strategic goals outlined in ‘Our Strategy’ are what drives the people, professionalism and pride with which we serve our communities.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Organisational Intelligence (OI) Team as an Intelligence Researcher. The team plays a vital role in helping West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) deliver the Operational Learning Fire Standard. This standard aims to achieve:

“A fire and rescue service that has developed a learning culture, acting on learning from operational and non-operational activity as well as external sources, to improve their operational response. The service will have embedded the management of learning into their policies, procedures, tailored guidance and training.”

“The service will have developed a culture which seeks to share their learning with others to improve operational response within their own service; with other fire and rescue services; and with the wider sector if appropriate.”

The OI Team ensures all staff have a voice, allowing them to share learning and feedback on activities, policies, procedures, systems, or processes. The additional value added by the OI team is in turning the range of information received into true organisational intelligence that informs strategic decision making. They turn feedback into actionable organisational intelligence. By identifying trends, themes, and risks, the team informs strategic decision-making to help WMFS continue improving.
