Our department within the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has a proven track record of developing people with a passion for IT. This placement will combine formal training with hands on experience, designed to teach you the skills you need to lay a solid foundation for a highly sought-after career in cyber security.

You will be based in our Information Technology Services (ITS) department, working closely with experienced Cyber Security Professionals who will guide and support you to develop your career.

You will be part of a dynamic team where the activities will include working as part of the DVLA security operations centre (SOC), evaluating cyber risk, supporting a security consultancy practice and using a wide range of modern security tools and controls.

Responsibilities 

Your responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:

  • Undertake monitoring of key security systems on a daily basis, performing relevant actions where needed.
  • Support the creation of standardised documentation; and develop skills and understanding of the DVLA tech estate and the process, approach and techniques used to manage it.
  • System support for all environments including production.

Person specification

We are looking for people who have the following:

  • An interest in cyber security and a desire to learn new digital skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate the competencies to rapidly acquire digital security and technology skills.
  • Enthusiastic approach to developing and applying cyber security skills both in the context of legacy technologies as well as applying them to new and emerging technology challenges and opportunities (including for example the threats and opportunities arising due to AI).
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Can work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to customers at all levels of the business.

You must be able to start on Wednesday 3rd September 2025.
