Aerodrome Flight Information Service Officer (AFISO)

In partnership with the MOD, NATS Solutions deliver Air Traffic Control services at Military Airfields (Barkston Heath, Middle Wallop, Netheravon, Wattisham and Woodvale). This is a 21-year contract delivered jointly with Aquila, who have responsibility for engineering services.

Job purpose / overview:

Netheravon Airfield is a Military Aerodrome with a charming and unique character, containing historic listed buildings, and a grass runway. Netheravon is an asset of the Army Training and Recruiting Division, and located north of Amesbury, Wiltshire, and is wholly contained within the Salisbury Plain Training Area (SPTA).

You will primarily be required to provide a Flight Information Service to Joint Services Helicopter Command rotary aircraft for Night Flying operations. In addition, the Joint Services Parachute Wing (Netheravon), Army Parachute Association, and Netheravon Flying Club aircraft use the aerodrome when AFIS is closed, as well as during normal operating hours.

Other duties include:

Reporting to the Senior Aerodrome Flight Information Service Officer (SAFISO), you will be responsible for:

  • Providing relevant information to aircraft, to enhance the safe and efficient conduct of flights on the Aerodrome and in the associated Air Traffic Zone (ATZ), in accordance with current Military Aviation Authority (MAA) regulations, CAA legislation and the Aerodrome’s Safety Management System, policies and practices.

  • A grounded approach to the existing safety culture and willingness to engage and improve working practices is encouraged.

  • Applicants will be required to adhere to the Operational Competence Scheme (NMOCS) operating at Netheravon which includes an Abnormal Emergency situation (ABES) requirement.

Essential skills and experience:

  • A current AFISO License with a current medical declaration.

  • Practical experience of providing an Aerodrome Flight Information Service is preferable, especially Night operations.

  • The ability to work under pressure within a small team.

  • A confident communicator, both spoken and written.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office packages, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

The successful candidate will be subject to National vetting procedures and will be required to hold the appropriate level of Security Clearance.
