NATS is the UK’s leading air navigation service provider, handling over 2 million flights each year. It provides air traffic control services from two control centres supporting airports all around the UK, as well as a wide range of commercial solutions to over 30 countries internationally
Aeronautical met & messaging services provides a 24/7 messaging service for both meteorological and aeronautical data, feeding key ATC systems, and acts as a messaging “switch” for the throughput of data to a global customer base
Your role as aeronautical met & messaging operational support will be key in ensuring the effective management of data through the met & messaging systems. These systems feed data to all major NATS ATC systems and are key to the safety of our service provision
You will be customer facing, dealing with both internal and external customers, focussing on Incident management and resolution, and ensuring the onward flow of aeronautical and meteorological data
Job purpose:
- Provide support & service management expertise for Level 2 & 3 incident, problem & change management, in close cooperation with aeronautical met & messaging services com centre (H24)
- Lead release & deployment activities, to ensure that services are appropriately transitioned into operation
- Provide expert knowledge and guidance to support the development, delivery and operational sustainment of external contracts, future projects, ATM systems & operational procedures
- Liaise with operational staff, to allow the correct derivation of user requirements & assisting in ensuring that these requirements are implemented
- Participate in the acceptance of operational systems to confirm fitness for purpose & ensuring that all safety implications are considered before introduction
- Responsible for the creation and delivery of competency materials to allow H24 to provide a safe & reliable service to customers
- Provide expertise to safety/security activities, providing data analysis & providing safety/security rationale and mitigation on identified potential risks
- Maintain a competency on all systems to act as duty operations manager
Essential skills & experience:
- Of aeronautical met & messaging operations, together with advanced level knowledge of these systems
- Understanding of the regulation & legislation impacting these services
- Negotiate and influence agreeable outcomes during complex technical discussions
- Work as part of a team whose close co-operation and interaction is essential
- Analyse & offer solutions to complex problems & to prioritise issues, making decisions based upon safety, regulatory & customer requirements
- Self-assured, motivated and able to deliver results & work with minimal supervision
- Experience in a service management role, good knowledge of ITIL & best working practices
