B&ES Mechanical Engineer

Job Purpose:

You will act as the mechanical building services engineering point of contact to liaise and co-ordinate with stakeholders, contractors, consultants and other NATS units. To deliver safe, fully integrated, comprehensive and economic mechanical services meeting legislative requirements.

You will assist Technical Services with maintaining the assurance on the mechanical building services systems that support the air traffic operations and support facilities.

Duties include:

  • Supporting mechanical building services engineering design, procurement and delivery of smaller projects, whilst supporting senior engineers on larger projects of all sizes covering new build work and major refurbishment work within existing critical operational buildings
  • Managing system engineering of small to medium multi-discipline projects covering RIBA stages 0-7
  • Assurance and design checking and capacity plan verification having a well-developed knowledge of the likely effect on the operational service of such work.
  • The need to visit sites across the UK to support problem investigations. Due to the critical nature of our sites, these visits may on occasion be required at short notice
  • Maintaining, producing and approving asset engineering documentation such as standards, maintenance schedules, legislative change, policy and technology strategies
  • Contributing to long term technical facilities investment plan. Supporting energy efficiencies and carbon reductions to meet the NATS net zero and negative carbon targets
  • Authoring, through Senior Engineer support, on Technical studies for Mechanical systems on Mechanical efficiency, ARM, Energy/Carbon Effects, load capacity and sizing calculations.

Skills and experience:

  • The applicant is expected to hold as a minimum a Higher National Diploma (HND) in mechanical building services engineering or similar related discipline. Degree qualified whilst not essential is sought after or heading toward
  • Proven knowledge of mechanical systems within building services
  • Experience of delivering mechanical services covering a range of different projects and contract types
  • Perform condition surveys and interpret system data
  • Good proven, technical, written, and oral skills are required
  • Knowledge of life cycle costing and value engineering
  • Safety management training, health and safety at work (including CDM and other regulations) training desired
  • Ideally a registered incorporated engineer or working toward
