Finance Operations Accountant

Job Purpose/Overview:

As a Finance Operations Accountant at NATS, you’ll join our supportive Finance Operations team and will be responsible for the execution of comprehensive general management accounting and period end closing and reporting activities, assisting our Senior Accountants who work across multiple business areas.

You’ll also participate in improvement and technical accounting projects on an ad hoc basis, as directed by the Improvement and Technical Finance Manager.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the team on a permanent basis and to hit the ground running to support delivery of the wider Finance vision.

Other Duties Include:

  • Work as a key member of the Accounting Service Team to deliver a high-quality service to the Senior Accountants, Business Partners and business area stakeholders.
  • Fulfil duties relating to multiple business areas including budgeting & forecasting, period end close, profit and loss preparation, balance sheet reconciliations, cross-company transactions, audit requirements, external funding, fixed assets, statutory and regulatory compliance (UK and overseas) and external bid work and billing.
  • Highlight key information from reports and initially investigate variances and trends to present to Senior Accountants.
  • Draft technical accounting materials.
  • Facilitate basic Finance training for the wider business.
  • Delegate work to Assistant Accountants, supporting the completion of these tasks.

The team is based at Whiteley, near Fareham, Hampshire. This role may also have line management responsibility of up to two junior team members.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • You’ll hold relevant Accountancy or Finance qualification(s) and relevant post qualification experience.
  • ​​​​​​​Comfortable with facilitating some basic Finance training.
  • Thrives in a highly collaborative team environment and able to hit the ground running across multiple business areas.
  • Exceptional communication skills and stakeholder management ability at all levels.
  • Motivated self-starter who can think outside the box and work with autonomy under minimal supervision.
  • Able to work to tight deadlines with exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Enjoys actively participating in continuous improvement activities and supporting technical accounting projects.
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, experience using SAP will be an advantage.
