Operational Support Engineer (OSE)

Job purpose:
As an Operational Support Engineer, you will be responsible for the H24/7 tactical delivery and maintenance of operational systems and equipment, providing functionality to Air Traffic Controllers at NATS Air Traffic Centres, Airports and other customers throughout the UK.

You will be responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of services used by Air Traffic Controllers throughout the UK, who provide safe Air Traffic Control services to aircraft transiting through UK airspace.

These services include the display of surveillance data, aircraft communications and support tools to ensure the safe and efficient transit of aircraft. You would benefit from utilising your experience of working in a mission critical environment.

The Operational Support Engineer will be working on a varied array of Air Traffic Management systems including:

  • Data Processing
  • Wide Area Networks
  • Computer based Support Systems
  • Surveillance/Radar systems
  • Air Ground Air communications / Voice Switches
  • Control & Monitoring Systems

Essential skills and experience:

  • You are expected to hold, as a minimum, a Higher National Certificate or Diploma in a Technical related discipline.
  • Applicants not holding the expected qualification but who have undertaken structured technical training (e.g. apprenticeship recognised by a professional body) and have extensive engineering experience will be considered.
  • Experience with these systems within an Air Traffic Management environment would be ideal but is not essential as appropriate training will be provided.
  • Applicants must possess effective judgement skills to maintain operational services in a safety critical environment.

Skills / personal qualities include:

  • Ability to interpret events (system alarms / customer reports), analyse a given situation, and act appropriately to maintain a safe operational service using procedures, training, and skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to present information accurately and concisely to customers and suppliers.
  • Capable of working effectively and collaboratively within a team.
  • Flexibility due to the shift working nature of the role.

Additional vacancy information:
You will be expected to work on shifts after short training period and this will attract a shift allowance in addition to the salary.
