Job Purpose:
We are seeking a Specialist Engineer to join our Voice Communications Support Team in Swanwick. Where you will be keeping our main voice switch maintained and resolving issues. You will be our technical expert and team leader, utilising your expertise in E1/QSig, AC15, MFC-R2 and VOIP to provide quality support to our operational Air Traffic Controllers.
Duties include:
- Performing day to day and strategic maintenance on our ATC communications systems at Swanwick Centre to agreed operational levels.
- Supporting projects for system design changes, upgrades and enhancements of our ATC communications systems.
- Mentoring other engineers in engineering best practice and leading a small team.
- Producing engineering instructions to ensure that systems are operated and maintained in a safe and professional manner.
Essential skills and experience:
- Professional engineering qualifications to HNC level and demonstrated ability to carry out engineering work to this level, including a sound knowledge of modern electronic and electrical engineering techniques and applications.
- Experience in Voice Communication systems e.g. Knowledge of ground-ground and air-ground communication systems/networks.
- Experience of working with electronics systems in an operational environment.
- Ability to lead and mentor a small team.
- Proven ability to communicate in a clear and precise manner.
- Qualifications in open-source OS /networks would be an advantage (e.g. LINUX/CCNA).
Additional vacancy information:
You are likely to be liable for on-call as part of the 24 hour support to the operation. There may be the need to provide telephone support or attend out of hours for service restoration, or to deploy service changes and you must be able to attend Swanwick within 1 hour of the call.
