Telent have a new opportunity for a Traffic Engineer to join the team. Due to an influx of work within the local authority sector, we are looking for a fully-fledged, or experienced Traffic Signals Installations / Traffic Signals Maintenance expert to come on board. This role is based out of our Salisbury (SP5 3HF) depot and is a field based role – a full UK drivers license (Manual & Automatic) is required, with the flexibility to travel straight to site using a tablet to take on work packs and scheduled works.
The Traffic Engineer role will see you take part in key commissioning, maintenance and inspections activities of Traffic Signals units and associated Traffic Signals equipment across the Salisbury area / Wiltshire region.

Traffic Engineer – What you’ll do:
- Complete planned periodic inspections in line with agreed schedules and SLA’s
- Complete maintenance in line with agreed schedules and SLA’s
- Attend assigned reactive faults as required by the contract
- Interrogate all types of Traffic Signals controllers and carry out fault analysis
- Ensure test equipment, PPE and vehicle are all compliant with up-to-date certification as required
- Ensure works are completed in accordance with site specifications
- Follow site specifications for quality and accuracy
- Be aware of safety at work and be alert in identifying potential hazards by removing or minimizing them wherever possible by following all Health and Safety Procedures
- Has full proficiency in a range of technical processes or procedures relating to Traffic Signals and associated equipment (or deep skills in a single area) through job-related training and considerable work experience
- Completes a variety of atypical assignments
- Works within defined technical processes and procedures or methodologies and may help determine the appropriate approach for new assignments
- Works with a minimal degree of supervision, with oversight focused only on complex new assignments
- Proposes improvements to processes
- Review KPI Reports and liaise with Technical Support Engineer as appropriate
- Carry out on site risk assessments and follow method statements
- Attend Team brief / Toolbox talks as required
- Carry out Site Acceptance Tests with Clients (basic sites)
Traffic Engineer – Who you are:
The ideal Traffic Engineer will already hold their NVQ Level 3 Highways Electrical diploma, but profiles with experience of carrying out Traffic Signals Maintenance, Inspections and Commissioning and even Installations, will be fully welcomed. We are looking for flexibility to travel straight to site across the Wiltshire and Salisbury region, able to complete a 1-in-4 week on-call / standby rota, and be able to and wanting to further develop your career and experience in the Traffic Engineering team. If you are an experienced Installation Engineer working on related Highways equipment (eg. Street Lighting, Gantries, CCTV, ANPR etc.) we would love to hear from you as we can further develop your career.
Traffic Engineer – Key requirements:
- Knowledge of Electrical Maintenance / Electrical Installations or possess equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering / Traffic Engineering / Traffic Signals
- General IT skills with the ability to use a Tablet
- Works well within a team
- Possesses a full UK Driving License
