End User Compute – Deskside Engineer 11 views

The Engineer works under limited supervision supporting several products, product sets, systems and hardware to help maintain the availability of the IT service experienced by end users. Working in a multi skilled team based environment, the engineer has responsibility for providing IT support to customers/contractors. Aspects of the role include, but are not limited to ServiceNow, Deskside support, Install, Moves and Changes to End User devices, Build Lab Engineering and IT Stores asset management.

Our core working hours are between 7am – 5pm.

Responsibilities 

Your responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:

  • Applying and operating EUC processes, tools and technologies and highlighting areas for improvement, producing effective management reporting in support of the EUC function
  • Taking ownership for listening to and understanding the customer’s problem. Escalating and/or gaining support where necessary to resolve problems. Using relevant information to diagnose and to resolve or enable resolution in line with agreed service levels
  • Meeting user needs in relation to End User Devices, and have the technical understanding of a variety of products in order to match the needs of users to a range of appropriate devices
  • Working closely with Service Asset and Configuration Management to support the reuse and disposal of assets in line the agreed processes and policies
  • Supporting the digital transformation of DVLA services in line with UK Government Digital Strategy

Additional information

This role will require you to work on-site at our Birmingham office, located in Birmingham City Centre, which is near 2 railway stations.

Please note this role will require some adhoc travel to the DVLA’s main site in Swansea, South Wales.

Person specification

You will have a basic understanding of computer system software, modern operating systems and hardware which after the relevant, required training this will result in you being able to confidently give sound advice and provide effective resolutions to problems.

You will understand the importance of working as a team and can prove to be a valid team member, as well as working under your own initiative.

With strong communication skills, you will have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. You can deliver information in a clear, confident, professional manner, sometimes relaying complex information to others on a regular basis.

Excellent interpersonal skills are essential for this role as there will be a lot of face to face contact with our customers and we will expect you to build trusting relationships quickly.
