Registry of Shipping and Seaman (RSS) is a Contact Centre responsible for co-ordinating and issuing ship registration and related documentation required to operate under the UK flag.

As Finance Manager, you will oversee end-to-end finance operations for RSS ensuring that all aspects of budgeting, finance and reconciliation is delivered in line with the Agency’s business requirements. Within this role, you will be responsible for managing the budget and monthly reporting, purchase order processing and cash reconciliation for the department. You will liaise with our customers to manage client accounts and ensure daily transactions are processed enabling income recognition.

In this interesting role, you will represent RSS and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) with a professional and clear approach, ensuring key messages are delivered to our internal and external stakeholders in a timely manner.

Your key duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the RSS budget by reconciling and delivering detailed internal and external financial reports:
    • Managing the monthly budgeting process to ensure that all activity is accounted for, and reporting is delivered in line with MCA requirements.
    • Tracking and reconciling spend against budgets, providing regular reports and advice for budget holders and senior leaders and promoting best practice.
  • Monitoring RSS spend; ensuring value for money and maintaining a robust level of financial governance, ensuring invoices are paid in a timely and efficient way:
    • Managing a timely and efficient invoice payment process.
  • Providing advice on invoice and payment queries:
    • Raising Purchase Orders (POs)
    • Handling queries relating to payments and invoices
    • Weekly/monthly banking and cash book balancing
  • Compiling data and providing analysis for audits, exercises, and to support business cases.
  • Direct line management for two Finance Assistants.

About you

You will have experience of financial management and control and be confident in completing a range of financial transactions.

You will be proactive in seeking resolutions and capable of resolving issues that arise through quick thinking. You will work well independently and as part of a team to deliver quality outputs and balance competing priorities.

You will be highly numerate with good attention to detail and accuracy, take pride in producing high quality work, and be proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook. You will be confident analysing data and producing reports.

You will be a supportive leader and display excellent communication skills, to express ideas and instructions confidently and concisely with colleagues at all levels.
