Position Summary

The Operational Support Analyst is key to helping us unlock our potential by harnessing our various systems, software and data-sets, as well as providing critical links between Operational, Engineering and Commercial data and KPI’s to drive collaboration and cross-functional decision making which puts the customer first.

This position requires a proactive approach towards validating data, guaranteeing its dependability for informing strategic business decisions and reporting. Additionally, the Operational Support Analyst will spearhead the creation, evolution, and oversight of advanced Power BI dashboards, while also making substantial contributions to system and process improvements.

The Operational Support Analyst will work closely with the Operations Director and Head of Operations as well as the wider senior leadership teams to deliver on key strategies and objectives for the business, as well as supporting in providing insights into business KPI’s to achieve growth and partnership objectives with key stakeholders


Main Duties 

  • Analysing large data sets to identify trends and patterns.
  • Providing insights to the wider business based on data analysis including opportunities for process automisation to drive accuracy and process led cost reductions.
  • Developing and maintaining dashboards for business reporting.
  • Working closely with the operations and engineering teams to drive business decisions.
  • Implementing data governance and ensuring data integrity, including ad-hoc internal audits and support with divisional or external data requirements during audits.
  • Assisting in the development of new business strategies based on data insights.
  • Collaborating with the IT department to ensure data systems meet compliance and business needs.
  • Continuously improving analytics processes and methodologies.
  • Fulfilling the data and reporting requirements as set out by the divisional department heads e.g. Fares and Ticketing data.
  • Support local project work and strategic initiatives as deemed appropriate.
  • Support in testing of new divisionally led systems.
  • Take responsibility for administrative duties relating to software and systems related contracts.
  • Produce daily and weekly reports for the management team which provide insights into operational trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with reporting requirements to external bodies on Operational KPI’s, including but not limited to West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA), Central York Council (CYC) and Driving and Vehicles Standards Agency (DVSA).
  • Support the Depot performance supervisory team to continuously improve standards and drive data led decision making.
  • Support Transport Managers in maintain records of compliance as well as providing trend analysis to drive improvements in O Licence maintenance.

Health and Safety Responsibilities

  • To take care of your own safety and the safety of others at all times by complying with the Injury Prevention Principles and with your responsibilities for Health and Safety outlined in UK Bus Health and Safety Policy FG/000 at all times.
  • To report to your manager any injury, collision, dangerous occurrence or a near miss in which you were involved or are aware of having taken place at your place of work, or any concern regarding any health or safety issue.
  • To participate in raising safety issues through Injury Prevention conversations and Injury Prevention tours.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications Required

  • A degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or a related field, or proven experience as a Data Analyst.
  • Advanced Excel skills (Data Connections, Power Query, Power Pivot).
  • Ability to develop Power BI Dashboards
  • Proficiency in SQL and other data analysis tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex data in a simple and understandable way.
  • Detail-oriented with an aptitude for accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of statistical methods and data modelling techniques is a plus.
