Overview:
The Pharmacy Technician is a key member to the pharmacy team, and responsible for the provision of a comprehensive pharmacy dispensary services to our patients and other service users.
You will be dispensing and checking, patient counselling, stock management, assisting training of staff and ensuring dispensary duties are completed. All processes must be in line with legislation: CQC, Home Office, GPh.C, and MHRA and BCH SOP standards.
This role will be flexible between the pharmacy locations to ensure that a consistent high quality, effective and safe service is delivered to all our customers. To assist in identifying and implementing service improvements
You’ll help us make health happen by:
- Appropriately receive, dispense, price and check, where appropriate, inpatient, outpatient and TTO prescriptions to ensure that safe dispensing and checking procedures are followed and in accordance with the law.
- You’ll support the dispensary staff to ensure accurate stock control in the dispensaries by ensuring efficient stock maintenance via Ascribe and implementation of administrative procedures.
- Support the dispensary staff with respect to Compucare / Billing issues. To ensure any bill queries are investigated and dealt with in a timely manner. Ensure that all charges are posted appropriately in order to assist in the delivery of the hospital’s business goals.
- You’ll develop and maintain competency in patient counselling for prescription items in liaison with the Responsible Pharmacist.
- You’ll ensure effective workflow and safe medicines management through the working day in liaison with the Dispensary Services Senior Technician.
- Enable the clinical pharmacy services, ensuring it is responsive and appropriate and that the professional image of the department is upheld at all times.
- Pro-actively escalate communications to resolve and improve any workflow issues to ensure all team members are suitably informed. To actively participate in team meetings.
- Ensure efficient, safe work processes are in place to maintain patient safety.
Key Skills / Qualifications needed for this role:
- Member of General Pharmaceutical Council (essential)
- BTEC Level 2 Pharmacy Assistant course (essential)
- Proven experience as a Pharmacy Technician (essential)
- Some managerial experience to support pharmacy staff (essential)
- Accredited Technician qualification (desirable)
